Gigabyte 7IX mobo question

I have a Gigabyte 7IX mobo with an Athlon 600 processor. I'm trying to find out if the 7IX mobo will work with the Athlon Thunderbird 900 processor. I know that the Gigabyte 7IXE board works with the Thunderbird series but I can't find any information on the 7IX board.

Is your processor a 700Mhz Athlon, or a 700Mhz Thunderbird? There is a difference in the processors. The motherboard will take up to a 1Ghz Athlon but I can't find any information on the Thunderbird.
I've been to the Gigabyte & AMD websites but they don't have any information. I've also left messages with both but received no reply. Naturally there are no phone numbers to call.
There was a short blurb at tomshardware.com that says the Thunderbird has problems in the 7IX board but no follow-up.
