I've been playing musical chairs with motherboards for my main rig and my media pc. Eventually I ended up with the 790gx-UD4p for both.
On my main rig which is housed in a Coolermaster Cosmos 1000, plugging in a USB device to the front panel would cause a restart. I thought it was a grounding issue and never had time to fix it.
I ended up installing the same board in my media pc which uses a generic case. after installation, i started getting the same problem with connecting anything to the front panel. In fact, touching the front of the case causes restarts!
After using the google, I found a recommendation to disconnect the reset header. Sure enough, it works now, on my main PC, haven't tried with the other one. However, I don't find this solution acceptable, I did not pay for two semi-functional motherboards.
THe fact that touching the front panel causes restarts makes me believe there is a grounding issue. OUt of the 7 motherboard standoff holes in the board, one is in a very odd location which does not have a corresponding standoff hole in EITHER case. I thought even one standoff provides the necessary grounding but maybe I'm wrong? Can this one standoff be the problem or is there something else going on?
