Yessir!!!

OneGigabit is offering one gigabit download speeds for $50 a month. Currently, advertised fibre internet packages from major internet providers such as Bell, Rogers and Shaw top out at 175 to 250 megabits per second and cost $115 to $226 a month.

This is freaking awesome. About time we get something good! Too bad it's all the way in the west coast though, but it's a start. :D

If they can offer gigabit internet with unlimited data, and make it profitable, it could change everything. At least until Bell phones their buddies at the CRTC to regulate the crap out of it, or buys them out.

I know if I could get gigabit speeds now, at the price I pay now, I'd completely ditch my ExpressVu.

to be honsest i don't know what i'd use 1 gigabit for. I got 50 mbps and it's more than enough. i could use more upload speed though.

it looks like you can only get it in select buildings in high density areas.

I'd be happy with 100mb tbh, if I could get that down and up, it would be a game changer for me. Probably host my online servers from home and save myself about 100 bucks a month, and I could upgrade those servers to any specs I want without paying extra per month.

100 mbps upstream would be sweet. personally, it would make cloud storage a lot more viable as secondary backup for example.

This. A lot of calls that come into ISP first and second level tech support are a result of subscribers that have all their devices set to sync automatically, and then call in complaining of slow internet speeds when their 1mbps upload is being completely saturated and bogging everything down. Well duh, you have 1 megabit of available upload speed, and you have several devices all trying to upload their content to the cloud! Amazing.

I don't particularly care whether the download speed is gigabit at this point, for my uses, anything over 30mbps is pretty much ok for a single person. I've never felt limited by my current 30 meg connection, only exception is when downloading large files such as games on Steam, they can still take a while. A faster connection would be cool for that, but otherwise I probably wouldn't notice much of a difference.

Where it would help would be to have unlimited or a high enough cap that I wouldn't worry. Some months I have downloaded almost 900GB, others less than 70GB. I'm not one to constantly be downloading crap I won't ever use, but I also don't want to pay for unlimited when I don't always use a ton. Nor do I want to pay for insane overages when I do happen to use a lot.

They have been rolling it out here in Sask for awhile now

260 down 60 up for like 100, but lots of packages to choose from
Sasktel is unlimited

Or do I have this wrong? Is gigabit only counted when its a gig download?

Yeah TBH I would be really happy with something like 10/10. Anything more is just a bonus. Currently I have 6/1. It's the upload that's the killer. Even just 6/6 would make the world of a difference.

OneGigabit's plan is to negotiate with real estate owners, managers and developers and hook up entire small- and medium-sized apartment, condominium and office buildings that don't currently have a fibre connection.

So yeah, most of us are not getting fibre any time soon.

Comparing the Sasktel with the OneGigabit I notice that St says you can have 7 boxes going with the 260 down speed, and OG says 5 with their 1000 down
Is Sasktel BSing somewhat?
