Gigabit Ethernet is it worth it

I have a 6mb cable modem, is it worth changing my ethernet card to gigabit, and will i need a gigabit router too?

Think about the numbers for a second there. Your cablemodem isn't even 10MBit. What makes you think GBe would help? 😛

You won't saturate the bandwidth of a 100mbps router even with a 6MB/s connection.

Yes, if you only have one computer connected to your cable modem then Gigabit will not help you.

I have two computers on my personal network that I transfer files between, and going to Gigabit
was a big help with that, but most people still don't need that kind of bandwidth, especially for
a normal broadband connection.

Unless you got a T1 connection or move HD movies over a network, GBe is gonna do you no good.
