1) Is it possible to directly connect two PCs with Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop PCI Network Adapters using a crossover cable ?

2) Can Gigabit speeds be achieved through this connection ? Does anbody have any experience on this ?

Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

Yes it works and no crossover cable is required! Gigabit Ethernet will autodetect your connection state so crossover cables are no longer a necessity when switches are not used. :)

Speeds typically range between 215 and 600 Mbps depending on your setup. Speeds will be in the lower range if you're using 32/33 PCI interfaces and well over half a gigabit sustained if both computers have PCI-X 133 MHz adapters. (providing your storage setups can sustain this speed!)

Cheers!
