I know alot of people on here have this board, and I was wondering if it works with pc2700 ram. The Giga-byte web site only lists pc1600 and pc2100. The giga-byte support was no help as their email reply simply stated "all boards operate at the specs shown on our site" I downloaded the manual and under Ram installation it says nothing about jumper setting for Ram, just that the bios will autodetect the ram type and adjust for it. However Crucial's site lists pc2700 ram as an option for this board. As well, many of the recent system reviews have used this board in conjunction with pc2700 ram, while others have only used it with pc2100.

So basically does anyone have this board running with pc2700 ram in it? and if so were there any tricks to getting it to work? Or am I better off being safe and just buying PC2100?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge

I use the Samsung 2700 and works well... it use to be on an AMD Motherboard but it works well for 1.0 ghz oc to 2.6 ghz no problems and temps are low as well.

by "supports" they mean runs at its rated speed. EVERY DDR motherboard will work 100% fine with PC2700 or PC3200 ram. They just won't run it at those high speeds (333 MHz and 400 MHz DDR, respectively); they'll run it at 200MHz or 266 MHz (PC1600 or PC2100). You can achieve a higher RAM speed by overclocking the FSB however, and that is why so many people use PC2700 memory on a KT266A or i845D/G motherboard - it gives you flexibility when overclocking and also if you ever decide to upgrade your mobo, then you won't have to upgrade the RAM.

Hope this clears things up for you,

Jeff

Sounds great, and I thank you all for taking the time to help me feel more confident about my purchase. I ordered the pc2700 from crucial today and will hopefully be putting it into the board by the weekend. If ya have any tips on how to configure the fsb to recognize and operate at pc2700 speeds, i'd appreciate. As well as any advice on how long I should let the board burn in at regualr speed before I attempt to raise the mem FSB. Also since I have never overclocked anything out of fear of burning things up, if ya post how to overclock the memory FSB, please state any dangers with it. Just spent my last pennies on these system parts and I would hate to damage anything. :)

Thanks again, couldnt have done this without all your help

PC2700 = DDR333

DDR333 = FSB x RAM RATIO

So for example 125 FSB x 2.66 RAM RATIO = 333

Or 166 x 2.0 = 333

Not likely you'll make it to a 166 MHz FSB though. :)
