Hello everyone.

I have a WD SATA drive and a DS3 Gigabyte Mobo. I didnt realize that I had to create a driver disk when installing a SATA drive and installed it in IDE mode. I had it plugged into the Intel Sata Connection.

I have read the manual now on how to properly install it in SATA, but I have already installed windows and all the programs that I want. I dont wont to go back.

Now In the bios it is showing up as IDE. Is there a way to change it to SATA now? If I switch it in the bios will It screw up my windows install?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Eddie

Are you saying that the BIOS is set to boot from IDE, but you are using SATA?

If so then if you change you boot order to boot from SATA it will detect your drives. For windows itself it does not matter if you use SATA or PATA, just as long as it works.

Also since it installed fine, you don't need to install any drivers for SATA to work.

I believe setting the BIOS to SATA will have it show up as SATA but should not effect performance of windows in any way.

This thread looks like it talks about your issue in deatail.
You need to swap to the purple SATA ports first and then enable the true SATA features and then install the drivers.
