Gift needed for leaving co-worker???

I work as a part-timer in the sports department of the town newspaper. There are four full-timers and three part-timers that make up this group.

I've been here for 14 months and one of the full-timers is leaving after five years to pursue other things.

Should I get him a going away gift? Is this proper work etiquette?? And if I do, how much should I spend?

Thanks ATOT

make sure he's a drinking man before getting him a bottle of decent stuff. Otherwise you may want to just find something else, i dont know, movie theater gift certs, etcetc.

if you respect and like him, give him a gift. i'm sure you've spoken to him enough to know what kind of music or movies he may like, so a dvd or CD may suffice. you have plenty of options though. liquor goes over well for some but not for others.

you're definitely not expected to give him anything, though. it's a very thoughtful gesture.
