Gift ideas

I these friends of the family (REALLY REALLY NICE FOLKS) are having a little get together for their adopted daughter.

They have treated their adopted daughter as truely one of their own, and I use the word adopted as in "welcomed into their family as one of their own" as they already have 3 kids of their own. It has been a struggle keeping her due to issues with her biological family and due to foster home arrangements, and they are going to be ecstatic when I go over their today because today is the day the Social worker brings over "the keys," if you get my drift. Finally after years of committment, today is the day they become her legal parents.

I know her quite well, so its not I'll buy something overly extravagant or overly cheap. I want something that will simply add to the joy of the day. She is around 7 yrs old, and I although I am not bewildered when it comes to what I want to get her, I wanted to hear some feedback.

I was thinking of perhaps a nice soft yet firm doll or bear like stuffed anmal. You know; not that plastic shell nonsense but more of a doll that she can sleep with. I think something that comes to mind is "ragedy ann." I remember seeing something like that as a kid. The kind of doll that is midway between think cotton and polyester. The reason I am thinking "doll" or "Teddy bear" is because my uncle gave me one "Oscar😀" as a gift when I was born, and I still have it .....close dryer burns and all ( i was a curious little mosnter😀)

Anyways, please feel free to give me ideas. I would rather steer clear of candy or toys as, from my experience, a child's emotional capacities are usually habitually limited with such things. On the contrary, something decorative or statuesque will just sit there and gather dust.

Bascially, agree with me 😉

Do you have a Build A Bear near you? You can customize your own teddy bear to whatever she likes and it'll be one of a kind.

you'd still be able to give it to her yourself -- you go in and build it and its done in 15 minutes and you walk out the door with it. I think it'd be a good gift.

in all honesty anything you get her she will love.

but a bear sounds great! i still have "teddy" that my dad got me when i was born. Its missing an eye, nose and its bow tie. oh and its head does not move anymore or both legs.

poor thing has been beaten over the last 30 years! heh

good idea. they come with a "birth certificate" so it'll have the date on it to remember the occasion.

on a side note, whats a good gift for a 1 year old boy?

Drum set. Something that makes ALOT of noise. Or just the box. 1 yr olds usually like big boxes just as much as anything else.

But what's two hours when it comes to celebrating a special occasion like this?

tonka trucks. 🙂

Definitely, or if you can find a bigger fire engine or police car that has the flashing lights.

Also, I am not sure if 7 is too old but there are some really cool Dress Up Set that you can buy.

Ah thanks to all. I had meant that if I had taken two hours, I would have arrived at her house very late. Even then I still got there after the social worker left. This was the equivalent of trying to get there before they "cut the cake" for an instances such as this.

What I did get her was BEAUTIFUL plush bear that feels like "suede wool" and is quite cute looking. La piece de resistance was aided by a little flower fella...sort of like a very cute flower stuffed animal with a bendable stem that can be coilled around stuff.

Basically she loved it.

Thanks🙂
