I need a new monitor. As long as I've been in computers I'm still pretty dumb when it comes to monitors. I know nothing about refresh rates and dot pitches, etc.

I want:
Very good image quality, I do a lot of Gaming, Browsing, Movies, CAD, Engineering
1600x1200 or higher resolution
Easy on the eyes
Will be used with Geforce2 GTS for now

I've heard there are some very nice 21s out there for not too much money. I'd like to keep it below $1000, better if under $700

I wouldn't go too cheap on monitors, as they will probably outlast all your other components. Not to mention a low quality one would be hard on the eyes.... i'll much rather get a nice 19" than a crappy 21". That said, i can't really help you... i'm not looking for a 21" for at least 6 months, so i haven't looked into it.

Thanks for the input. If I can't get a decent 21 for 700-1000, then I'll take an excellent 19 for that price. Really want that 21 though.

A lot of post lately have brought up the fact/opinion (I dunno which) that nVIDIA 2D blows at high resolutions.

But my 21" favorite for $700-1000 would be the Iyama Visionmaster Pro. I use a 19" Viewsonic PF790 that I just bought. Anything bigger will capsize my desk. ;):)

But you may wanta set some cash aside in case your not happy with your video card's 2D image.

If money isnt an issue i would go with flat sony or viewsonic (although i dont like their cases for the monitors). I will also defent Samsung cuz i have a cheap 17inch SyncMaster 750s wich is a new generation model and it is really 5/5 for me..... i wonder what would u get for the amount of money u looking for? hahaha Probably Samsungs 19 and 21 inch tubes are as impressive if not more....also as i did, i would go on the manufacturers site and dig for spec of the models that u are interested in buying. Write the specs u looking at on a paper and compare.....and some manufacturers even make charts for u so u can compare the most competing models with their product...
Hopefully this helps ;)

I'll get pricing on Samsung and Viewsonic.

I've got a viewsonic P810-21" at work and love it.

thanks for the tips!
