I still can't understand why they just don't make an open source image compression algorithm.. JPG, from what I hear, has lawsuits currently over who owns it.

The quotes were in the story originally. Not that I care, I just figured some mention of the source should be made.

This is a good thing, although I hardly use gif anymore. I rely more on jpg and png these days.
