Just installed this mobo and can't get it to connect to the net. It has an onboard LAN port and I don't know if this is the problem or not. I unhooked it from my router and ran it direct and still no. In the LAN settings it says "not available" for the isp, mac address etc. Can't download new drivers because can't hook up. (maybe could do that with other box and put them on floppy) any ideas? Oh, already talked to isp tech and she suggested calling MS. Thought it might be a problem with the OS. (XP Pro) I don't think that's it, but stranger things have happened.

Drivers installed?
Can you ping the other computer?
Event viewer?

That's about the only reason I have a floppy drive any more is to load the LAN drivers. If they're on a CD, you don't even need that. I'd try getting the latest drivers from the manufacturer of the M/B.

I'm assuming when you connect the cable, the light goes on on the switch and or M/B LAN connector? (Some motherboards don't have lights for their on-board LAN connectors though.) That would tell you if it's at least working at the low level as opposed to just DOA.

Is the NIC device is showing up in the device manager under the Network Adapters list rather than the Unknown list? If it's in the Unknown list or in the Network Adapters list but complaining about drivers not loaded, it's likely a driver problem. (It's likely a driver problem in any event, if you can't open the properties to set up your IP info.)
