Giants sign Kurt Warner

The NY Giants signed Kurt Warner for 2 years and 9.5 million (which really translates into 3.5 million + an option for next year at $6m, so it sounds like they aren't planning on keeping him around). Apparently they weren't paying attention last season when they played the Rams and Warner had 1 pick and 6 fumbles.

Ah, well, at least Brenda Warner will have a larger media market to embarrass her husband in.

I think their story was a big part of it (not just Kurt's past as a grocery stocker; she already had two kids from a previous marriage, one of which has brain damage and is a special needs child). That and she's totally batsh1t crazy and, as a result, makes for a great quote.

Everybody relax. He's gonna be backing up Eli next year, that's all. This year is sunk anyway. Now if Tikki could just hold on to the damn football, it might be an okay season.

He had a concussion after the first sack. He should not have been playing.
It's not like Giants are bringing in a new start QB in Warner. Eli is gonna be the man. If not next year, then the next. I hope.

Just when you thought that the Collins-Barber tandem couldn't be beaten for fumbling, along comes Kurt. ;)

The rumors from StL were that Warner wasn't much of a mentor to Bulger (and supposedly Mike Martz had people assigned to keep them apart on the sidelines).

So true. I wonder what his reaction will be the first time the Philly crowd boos him for alligator arms, heh. I have to say, his continual bad mouthing of Jeff Garcia was kinda funny last year, but man, i wouldn't want him on my team. On the plus side, he'll get to play in Dallas once a year and have that many more opportunities to pose on that star at midfield (plus the smearing that goes along with it).

Oh, man, that's great. Every QB other than McNabb in that division is either aging and near retirement or almost completely inexperienced (except Quincy Carter, I guess, but I still think of him as untested for no real reason).

She called in to a local sports radio show and talked smack. Eventually she got her own "spot" on another morning zoo type show.

Last year Warner suffered a pretty hefty concussion early in the season.

Concussions slow cogitation ever so slightly, enough that in a split-second rapid fire game like the NFL, it makes a noticable difference. They also take at least a month to many months to properly heal.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see Warner do well as I don't want to see him end up with a higher career QB rating than Joe Montana or Steve Young. But in all fairness, cut the man some slack until he gets another chance to play without a banged-up brain.

Wouldn't surprise me if Warner comes back in 2004 and plays at a Pro-Bowl level.
