I've never understood this, what does it mean when a software title goes gold? Does it happen like music albums (i.e. when you sell a certain # of copies)?

I believe when a piece of software goes gold, that means that it is out of the beta stage and it is ready for production, with the program hitting retail shelves not too long after. I'm not completely sure if this is correct, but I think that's how it works.

Thx. Boy Interplay sure has a cruddy site for this game -- I can't even figure out what type it is. It looks like a platform shooter.

Actually, it is a first of it's type. It's a combination of FPS, RTS, Fighter, and RPG.

Kabuto (the Giant) is a Fighter type character (like Tekken)
The Sea Reaper is an RPG type character
The Meccs are pure FPS characters

Put all this together plus some RTS and you get a unique game called Giants. It will rock!
