This cracks me up. Microsoft wants to be the bad boy on the block, what if Google turned around and suddenly released Google OS 1.0 that was faster, more stable, more user-friendly and worked with all the programs on the market? Ouch for Microsoft, what if Google was really doing that? Would it be free in Google fashion? :)

Hmmmmmmm.....

*Sigh* must Microsoft get their hands in everydamn thing? Competition is a good thing...it actually sparks innovation, something Microsoft may take a cue from someday. Who wants everything from one company? You start up your computer on your Microsoft OS (yes, I know of Linux this is an example), you use your Microsoft Office Suite with your MS mouse, you surf the web with IE and search with that nifty new Microsoft search page.

I hope they don't catch up. I like Microsoft in some ways but I'd like other companies around to keep them from getting stagnant and force them to "keep up with the Joneses."

i know msn searches use paid-placement listings (that look way too much like 'real' search results).. if people can pay to have top listings on what is supposedly the "best" search engine, what's the point? When i search for 'digital cameras' i don't want circuit city or ritz camera comin up anywhere in the top 50. Also, check out http://www.teoma.com/ .. its like google, very similar results. I don't know if its as refined (or the other way around) but i've started using it quite often.

Google is unstoppable. Best searches period; best pop-up blocker for free, packaged with a menu-based search bar (ingenious on their part).

I don't doubt Microsoft has smart people. But they'll need to "borrow" some ideas from Google if they want to be successful in the search engine market.

If Microsoft jacks Google, then someone will do the obvious and code another crawler and engine (Or Google will do the noble thing and in their death throwes, opensource their engine). Then it'll only be a matter of time before someone with an equally massive fleet of machines sets them to work to scour the Internet and compile a search database.

They'll never beat Google unless they buy Google.

Edit: or steal their technology....

ehh, maybe. But when Intuit wouldn't sell them quicken (in the mid-late 90's), they tried to make MS Money it's equivelent, and to this day, Quicken still rules that realm.

No they don't.
Quicken is not as great. I think Turbo Tax or whatever is it called is ranked a lot higher.
