Giant Magellan Telescope

That's pretty cool, meanwhile in the US the 30 meter telescope construction is still hunkered down for the last 5 years by local folks claiming that Mauna Kea Hawaii is sacred land.

Living on the big island, the thirty meter telescope did get some good news as of recent...

I think even tho, permits may be granted for the go ahead... You'd need to have the national guard posted up there 24 hours with troop presence to keep the religious people in line. I am pretty sure this won't happen, as it's clear the state authorities don't have the manpower to keep the peace. I think the best option for TMT is build it someplace else. Even tho, this is a small group of people that don't want it to happen, the majority of the state is in favor of it being built, as it will bring badly needed jobs and money to the island.

I still think the best bet, it to fund the money in space based telescopes, even tho, some of the best scientific discoveries have come ground based observatories like Keck. Kind of ironic, that keck could be placed on the chopping block if TMT is built.

Awesome!

I can't wait until the 'James Webb Telescope' (aka Hubble 2.0) gets finally launched and activated.
