Giant Laptops/"Desktop Replacements"... i.e. 20"+ screen

Does anyone manufacture laptops with screens 20" or larger? I'd love to get one, as the larger screen would also allow for a wider and more distributed base, increasing thermal efficiency and allowing for more hardware options.

On a similar note, does anyone manufacture barebone laptop cases? Or at least laptops which accept standard, non-proprietary components?

I know Dell used to make something like a suitcase laptop. I don't know what happened to that.

As for the latter question, MSI makes a few and Asus used to make some (but I don't think they're doing that as much, as their pre-builts have really taken off in various markets in recent years). They do accept standard components, but you'll probably end up spending at least as much as a pre-built system and you'll have to go to the individual parts manufacturers when you need warranty service. You also won't find any slim designs either because of the need to use sockets instead of just soldering parts on.

The XPS 2010 is what Brainonska is thinking of.

Conversely there is always the idea of getting an all-in-one.

Getting one of those through airport security would be quite a challenge.

That is no longer a laptop - but a portable computer. We used to have those back in the 80s. Compaq made a living off of them.

LOL! And, while sitting on a sofa or a park bench. 🙂

I see Sony has a 18.5" Vaio.
