ghosty box appears only in desktop

I have this flickering box that's almost invisible in the center of my 7 desktop. I haven't seen it when using other OS's so I'm not sure if it's the monitor causing it or not. Dead center and shaped like a letter. Seems to go away if I use an appl and then look back at the desktop. Intermittent. Very weird.

Anyone have a guess at what would be causing this?
