Ghosting text

I have developed a recent problem with the picture on my monitor. I get a ghosting of the image especially around text that will come and go for no apparent reason. I have tried new drivers for the card. If I restart in safe mode or set the resolution to 800X600 it seems to go away. I am running WinXP Pro with a GF2 MX200 and an Envision S1770 monitor. Is it the monitor or video card that is the problem?

Did this just start happening out of the blue?

Basically, what you are seeing are "reflections" of the RGB signal being passed over your video cables to your monitor. There are many reasons why you see them.

1) Geforce2 MX cards generally have poor 2D quality at high resolutions. What resolution/refresh are you running?
2) The poor 2D quality is sometimes due to a low or uneven signal response at high frequencies, or more commonly, a LPF on the card which isn't matched properly and attenuates high frequencies at too low of a level to look OK at high resolutions.
3) Is your monitor cable kinked? At high resolutions, the signal frequency on that cable is over 200MHz which (in cheap cables) can start to add alot of attenuation.

I have been running 1024X768 at 70 HZ refresh. I will check the cables to see if it got kinked, it's possible as the case is under the desk and may have been pushed too far back. Thanks for the help.

I just started having the same problem (accompanied by a funny squiggly blur line in the center of my monitor). I posted about it here and rogue1979 suggested that I isolate my monitor cable. I haven't had time to do that yet (let alone figure out how I will run my monitor cable away from all other cables). It sounds quite plausable. Please let me know if you are able to solve your problem.

I checked my cables last and night and the monitor cable did have a very sharp bend right behind the machine. I straightened it out and it appears to have solved the problem. The only down side is it appears I will have to keep my GF2 for a while longer. (was hoping that was the problem so I had an excuse to replace it.) Thanks for all the help.
