Just wondering if any of you Ghost Gurus out there had any ideas;

I've got a number of sites linked by a fairly slow WAN and I need to be able to use ghost to cast images at any of the sites. Is it possible for me to use a local machine (on the same subnet so 100Mbit link) as a data source but still control the process over the WAN link from my central ghost console?

Cheers etc...

I don't know about ghost, but I'm using ZENworks imaging and the principal may be the same. In some cases I use a central imaging machine to control the processing of images. That machine then sends a script to the workstations telling then hoe to reimage themselves. They can then pull the image from the central server or another remote location. In ZEN it's called scripted imaging. Ghost may have something similar.

I would toss out a Ghostcast server on the remote site and use Win XP Pro's remote desktop, or terminal services (if Win2k server), or even TightVNC if nothing else is available. Unfortunately I don't know about controlling a secondary ghost server from a primary console but if you can just toss a secondary server out there and remote control it, it's almost the same thing. :)

yeah i second the terminal services idea. I do that all the time. Just make sure that the ghost console is not running on the local desktop. You can only have one instance of the console running at a time, so if its running, you wont be able to get it open in terminal services. But you can always use task manager to kill it on the local desktop.

Also, when you kick off a task from the console, close your terminal session until its completed, to cut down on the traffic over the WAN link.
