Since it appears I"m going to be buying a new monitor, I was wondering how bad ghosting is with LCD's for gaming. I assume the more expensive you go the less a problem it is. However is it possible to find any cheap ones where there isn't any ghosting? I'd rather not have it happen at all, if that's not possible I"ll just stick with a CRT..

Ghosting is the nature of the beast as far as LCDs are concerned. The lower the response time, the less ghosting you'll get.

If you want cheap, you'll get ghosting. If you don't want ghosting at all, you'll need to buy a CRT.

Best way to tell if its possible.

On my 16ms, 17" LG LCD, Ive only noticed Ghosting in NFSU/NFSU2. with or without Motion Blur, I seem to get what is termed as ghosting.

An LCD with 16ms response time is borderline no ghosting. Most people with 16ms LCDs don't notice ghosting, but some folks with sharp eyes notice some.

At 12ms or less, there should be NO GHOSTING at all, unless you run some atomic-powered diagnostic tests with the soul purpose of performing some test that might under extreme scrutiny come up with a fraction of a second of incredibly limited ghosting to the nano-power.

Bottom line, you probably won't notice any ghosting at 16ms unless you're looking for it, and if you notice ghosting at 12ms or less, you need to get a life, and maybe go outdoors every now and then.

Ghosting is really not an issue for gamers anymore on LCDs if you're willing to put out a little money for 16ms or less (12ms or less for hardcore gamers).

If you are a hardcore gamer, you're probably going to have more issues with screen resolutions then you are with ghosting, since LCDs still have serious problems displaying resolutions at anything other then their native mode. If you're going to play games at anything other then native resolution of an LCD, I'd consider that a much bigger problem then ghosting.

I have a Viewsonic VP912B (12ms)... never noticed any ghosting at all (and I was even looking for it). Great LCD... however, I passed it off to my wife because I couldn't stand the non-native modes in gaming that wouldn't support the native resolution.

If ghosting is your only concern, it's not an issue if you pay the dough... just realize, there are some things LCDs still can't compare next to a CRT... differant resolutions is chief amongst them.

I have some ghosting on my samsung 243T, however it's only rated at 25ms. It's funny though, ghosting is such a user-based qualification. I had been using a dell laptop for 3 years before taking the plung with a desktop and this LCD. For me, I only see ghosting on the samsung while watching really dark movies or playing dark games like Doom3 and NFSU2. And then, it's a ghosting that occurs mainly on dark objects that move on the screen.

I never noticed any ghosting at all on my laptop until I started comparing it to my samsung. Now, when I replicate things on my laptop that ghost on my desktop, I notice some slight ghosting on my laptop. Obviously, it had always been there, I was just never aware of it. My girlfriend couldn't notice any ghosting at all on the desktop until I specifically pointed it out to her, and even then she didn't mind it. It's really a personal thing, and a tricky one because lots of people "assume" that a 25ms panel will ghost, even if they don't see it. Likewise, people will "assume" that a 12ms panel won't, however you can find reviews of 12ms panels that report ghosting.

I'm slightly annoyed by it sometimes, however I've gotten used to it, and the practically of this 24" beast makes up for it. For CAD/photo editing, it's a dream.

No ghosting in anything on my 2001fp unless I play quakeworld and release the fps cap which gets it to like 400fps or something and makes things all wonky.
