Ghost Win2K boot disk won't boot

BT7990

Senior member
I used the disk wizard to create a boot disk (new disk, let it format it), and it will not boot. Get NTLDR message on boot. Can I create a boot disk through Win2k or do I have to copy the MSDOS from a Win98 system? Ghosting from one HD to another. Have used Ghost in the past on 98 machines w/no problems. I really would like instructions on how to make a boot disk in Win2000. The Readme files and manuals are pretty light on Win2k, and I checked their web site FAQ's and message boards.

Anyone??
TIA

You never specified what version of Ghost you have....

Prior to Ghost version 6.03, Ghost obtained the MS DOS 7.0 files from a location you specified, or from a formatted floppy disk. Starting with Ghost version 6.03, Ghost provides IBM's PC DOS files, version 7.0.

Some computers might have problems with this version of DOS. To resolve the problem, replace the PC DOS files with an earlier version of PC DOS files, or with the MS DOS 7.0 files. See the document How to replace the DOS files.

Sometimes these problems are due to using PC DOS with an old computer BIOS. Upgrading the computer's BIOS might resolve the problem.

How to replace the DOS files

Prior to Ghost version 6.03, Ghost obtained the MS DOS 7.0 files from a location you specified or from a formatted floppy disk. Starting with Ghost version 6.03, Ghost provides IBM's PC DOS files, version 7.0. Some computers might have problems with this version of DOS. To resolve the problem, replace the PC DOS files with an earlier version of PC DOS files or with the MS DOS 7.01 files.

NOTE: MS DOS 7.0 and earlier do not work with FAT32 partitions, and may have smaller limits on disk or partition sizes than later versions. MS DOS 7.01 and later, included in Win95b and later, do understand and work with FAT32 partitions. FAT32 partitions are supported by Windows 95b and later, Windows 98/ME, and Windows 2000.

Updating bootable floppy disks

To update a floppy disk, manually replace the PC DOS files with the MS DOS files. In some cases, even when replacing PC DOS files with earlier versions of PC DOS files, manually replacing the files might not be sufficient to resolve the problem.

In this case, you can replace the files with one of the following methods:

The SYS command: Remove the PC DOS files, and then use DOS's SYS command to place the new DOS files on the floppy disk. Be sure to include the file Himem.sys on the boot disk.

Multicast Assist: After updating Multicast Assist Wizard to use the MS DOS files or older PC DOS files, recreate the bootable floppy disk using Ghost 6.0's Multicast Assist Wizard.

Hope this helps...
