This was a major find for us here at my work. I'm not sure if anyone else has this trouble but I thought I'd post it in case.
If you get slow images transfers when ghosting to a mapped network drive try this little doodad on the command line when you run ghost:
ghost -buffersize=8
It's works around some quirk with the MSDOS network client.
