who exactly wrote this song? rage against machine or bruce springsteen? i searched it on google and gave me both. and who is this tom joad?
 
springsteen wrote it. it is based on john steinbecks 'the grapes of wrath'. good story about the song. this site has a wealth of information including the inspiration for other springsteen songs that are in the vein of 'tom joad'. 'balboa park', heh. good stories about that park also, not directly relating to that song. i go there every year or so, a lot of good information and museums there.
