ghost multicast help

hi all.. needing some clues re: ghost multicast server..

one win2k machine running ghost 6.03 enterprise (upgraded from 6.0 enterprise for win2k compliance, as recommended by norton). this machine is running multicast server in windows, and is looking for a dump from client. [have not tried running server in dos but will try later]..

first client machine - using multicast boot disc made via norton multicast disc utility: ndis driver for netgear fa311 (as recommended by netgear), dhcp set to automatic. all machines are sitting behind router running dhcp. i boot from disc, it finds drivers, run ghost.exe and attempt partition-to-image and get no network options in destination drive. moreover, multicasting options are greyed out in main menu. i have also tried manually assigning ip settings on the boot disc and still no luck..

any thoughts? what am i missing?

Hmm, this is really weird. You made network boot disk, right? I've done this a thousand times before (was using 6.0), and never seen multicasting options grayed out. My only suggestion would be to watch dos prompt during boot up, and make sure everything loads up. If this still doesn't work, I'd try different driver.

Can you use regular client-server connection?

what do you mean by regular client-server connection with ghost? my understanding is that multicast is the only option for server. it distributes images to clients or can receieve image dumps one at a time. i want the latter..

everything looks good during the dos bootup - found fa311 drivers, binding tcp/ip. i run ghost and no multicast options, and no network options in destination window. i have never run multicast before, but i would expect to see network options in the destination window, no?

netgear recommends using ndis driver with the fa311 with ghost - not the packet driver. i did so, and everything seems alright in the dos boot, but i am suspicious. look at article N01913 in the netgear knowledgebase for more info. there are also some issues with some fa311 being recognized as fa312s - i have used the card successfully otherwise so i don't think that that is the case..

any further help would be great..

You mean there are no multicast options, or they are grayed out? Either way, try recreating the boot floppy, make sure you select network disk, etc... Hope this helps.
 
grayed out on the ghost client-machine..
i have recreated the bootdisk a few times..

(1) one with specified IP
(2) one pulling IP from router DHCP

no luck in either case. recommendations from anyone else?
 
I use ghost 5.1d at work and the only time the multicast option was greyed out was because the nic driver did not load properly but my floppy disk was bad so that was an easy fix
 
ok got past the greyed out multi-casting.

now things die right after saying ok to session name - machine reboots. i have tried with both dhcp-assigned and manually-assigned IPs. maybe a driver issue? symantac says that routers can block multicast. all machines are behind a netgear rt314..

ok, figured it out in space of posting this reply in fits and starts. starting to talk to myself here. just updated to beta driver for ghost compliance with fa311. able to start multicast session.
