Hey. Not sure if this is Software/Hardware/whatever, and I'm doing this now so I need the answer quickly ;). Gotta love ATOT traffic :D

I've got a new hard drive and finally have the room to ghost my OS and Apps drives. I need to know how big of a FAT32 partition to allocate to it. What's the ratio of compression on the ghost images. For example, if I had 10 GB of data on a drive, how big would the ghost image be? Thanks a lot.

Our standard images at work are around 2.2GB, and they compress to 1.5GB using the Fast setting. With Max compression selected you could probably squeeze it down an extra 100-200MB or so...

not as bad as filling 200 floppies though.. how long did that take btw?

agree with danfungus, i usually get what he gets (1200-1300MB per 700MB cdr) when i set it to max compression.

ouch...yeah, i forgot to mention it was Max compression.

I was using my 32x burner, but setting it to max compression took about 8-10 minutes per CD...87 CD's i think....anyways, it took around 10 hours, from 11 am to 11:25 pm (yes, that's 12, but I took a 2 hour break to make a run to Staples and CompUSA ;))

generally win98 images are tiny, 2k bigger, xp big especially if you forget to get rid of that damned hibernation file.

and dear lord, 66cdrs for images? was all your info that important?

i generally only ghost my o/s appz partition, it stays at about 1cdr max. i backup all media files separately.

Win2K all NTFS partitions, backed up all partitions...4 hard drives in the system (I luv you RAID :))

40Gig--main OS/program drive (3 partitions)
40Gig--main data drive
60Gig--main data(movie) drive...43gigs of data here
20Gig--not much here...hmmm

so yeah, 87 cd's, yargh, and a long long time--at least I have the things incase a drive fails or something
