Ghost image of w2k adv server won't run on new HD.

I'm using a older version of Ghost 5.1d and used it to do a disk to disk copy. The old drive had a bad sector on it and I wanted to move it to a new HD. After the disk to disk copy, I tried to boot from the new HD with the image of the old HD on it. It will boot for a while, then it gives me a blue screen with a HD access error message.

I believe it's because the system settings from w2k on the old hd don't recognize the new HD from which it is booting from. Any ideas how to get around this? I'm sure my situation isn't all that unique. Is there some type of utility or MS tool to perform this task? Thanks!

Are you getting a STOP 0x7B?

Are you using the same disk controller on the old and new hard drives? If you're putting the new drive in a system that has a different disk controller, you'll probably get a STOP 0x7B.

If the drive controller is the same, it might be that the older version of Ghost doesn't understand NTFS 5.

From what we were told, Ghost 6 is required for all Win2K ghosting. May be a plot to get more money, but we haven't successfully ghosted 2000 with 5.1 yet.

I'm using the same disk controller, just the HD is different. When I first made the disk to disk copy, ghost popped up a message and said that the NTFS drive would not be bootable. I guess it was right. Man, I don't want to go buy another copy of ghost. Anybody know how to accomplish the samething with a free utility? I'm not holding my breath on this one! Thanks for all the help so far guys.. Much appreciated. 😀

Yeah, MS made changed to the NTFS filesystem with W2K, and older versions of Ghost don't understand the new structure.
