when booting cloning a partition, it fails at logon, giving a pagefile error (there is none).
Anyone know how to resolve this?

dude i just got the same thing. i am using ghost 2003, and am trying to ghost the boot partition from one drive to another. but after ghost is complete and reboots, after i log in, i get an error about no paging file. the error window actually gives me instructions about what i need to do, but after i click ok on the error, i am back at the login prompt. i log in again and the error pops up again. this goes on forever. same thing in safe mode. anyone know how i can fix this? am i ghosting incorrectly or something? what software do you guys use for cloning ur win2k partitions?

Go into the registry and hack the SID in the registry, delete the C one, and rename the SSID for the D drive to refer to the C drive.

Or just follow these instructions HERE

Well i'm not sure what was happening to cause this error, but my situation is resolved. I ran repair on the server installation on a much newer machine and everything came out fine. I even switched the HD to another smiliair machine after that with no problems.
It was originally on an intel SE440BX-2 (450 p3), and I got the page file error wether I left it in the original machine, or tried transferring it to a Intel d845wn (the original destination)
The whole mess is weird, but it works now so whatever.

what kinda confuses me is... is there no way to just ghost a win2000 partition? i ghosted my win98 partitions all the time without any hitches afterwards. maybe i'm doing something wrong... i should check out the manual i suppose :p

good links thanks ..

those SID numbers are only good for the current hard drive, so if you ghost to another hard drive within 2000/XP, you;ll run into that problem. You won't find that problem using the same drive over and over again. Found out the hard way .. before those links. Ill have to read up on it and find some solutions.

thanks again.
