I'm trying to upgrade the hard disk on my wife's laptop (XP Pro, SP2). I have Ghost 9.0 installed on XP, and attach the 2nd hard drive through an atapi pcmcia card. I use Ghost's Disk Copy command and it takes about 2 hours to copy her 40GB drive to the newer 60GB drive.
After the copy is done, I put the 60GB in the internal bay (40GB drive and atapi card are not attached at this point) and it boots up to the point where the login screen should appear but just hangs there. No ctrl-alt-del. Safe mode does same thing. The contents of the new drive are accessible from the first hard drive, BTW (ie when XP booted on 40GB drive, I can see the contents on the 60GB just fine).
I tried on another laptop with another drive and got the exact same problem.
Does this have something to do with XP seeing different hardware (hard drive), or SP2? Any troubleshooting advice?
