I'll bite but I hate mail in rebates.

Note

"$35.00 mail-in rebate valid from 11/24/04 to 12/02/04."

Only good for two more days.

I did note that and verified that the rebate was still valid (I just had a problem with an expired outpost rebate but they made good).

what are the advantages of this versus ghost 2003?

with ghost 2003 I'm able to make NDIS ghost boot disks for all my systems with a central storage for all the images... has something significantly changed in ghost 9?

just curious in some feedback from people that have actually used it... its tought to sift through the marketing garbage on the symantec website

All I know is that Ghost 9.0 works while Windows is running...Beyond that I don't know.

Well symantec aquired powerquest so ghost is now the best of both worlds. If you cant figure out something on your own buy out the compitition and use there technology, lol. MS been doing it for years..

I just received Ghost 9.0 today and there was both a Ghost 9.0 cd and a Ghost 2003 Cd in the box. Has anybody else gotten both?

symantec are not good with rebates - i had one for drive image 7, took forever.

personally i'd recommend acronis true image 8 over ti7/ghost2003 (ghost 9 = 2003+ti7)

I agree that Symantec has a bad reputation when it comes to rebates. Most of the ones I have sent in in the last few years they have rejected for one reason or another but all have been paid after multiple phone calls. I currently have 7 rebates outstanding with them, one is valid and the other 6 are awaiting paperwork. Hopefully all will come in.

Ryland,

I agree that Symantec is reluctant to give out rebates for any purchases other than their upgrades. I bought two Norton Ghost 9.0 at Christmas and submitted (in full) the appropriate rebate materials $40 rebate each=$80 total. But, both have been initially rejected for lack of UPC code, which was included and stapled to the rebate form. This may be a rip off by Symantec. Telephoning only got recorded messages. The FAX number for resubmission was "disconnected". So, I have resubmitted all my copies by mail. If you have a phone number to call them, please post it.

Thank you,
Deskstar

I have ghost 9 and it does not work. I get a virtual driver error message every time I try to use it and the only fix is to remove and reinstall. After 6 tries and still the same error message it is not worth it. I emalled them and got a fix that did not work either and replied back to them that the patch they sent did not fix it but never heard back. Use ghost 2003 in my oppion just one think it only burns 683mb to a DVD even though it is suppose to support DVD's.

I have a rebate from symetech and it is from May 2004 and still never received it. They lost the information and I resummited the information they asked for now they say I am ripping them off buy applying twice for the same product rebate and they state only one per family but I have the rebate form and one part says 3 per family and down below in very fine print it says 1 per family so the lady told me nobody will side with me legally as it says 1 per family in the very fine print but in bold print right after the product offer on the rebate it says 3 per household.

Be carefull and make copies of everything.

I mailed two rebates days apart to them and nither one was received go figure and I have been rebating for 5 years and have never failed to get a rebate back except from them.

I jumped into this deal like 8 weeks ago, and my rebate was sent by symantec in record time...about 3 weeks. I was pleasently surprised.
Not to mention the ATI rebate for sending in your old card....2 days.

Image Validation - Make sure that you've a spare hard drive to restore the image following a backup. It's not 100% proof (Media error, etc..).

I also saw the same thing about the invalid UPC code when I was checking on my rebate. I waited, thinking I'd get a postcard with the rejection. Then the rebate check showed up! So it sounds like the rebate house had some bogus info at some point and then figured out the problem.

I just received an email that my rebate is now approved, whereas previously it had been denied. I guess that Symantec's rebate processor figured out the problem. Thank you Symantec.

Oh, and Ghost 9 works great and allows unattended back ups while in Win XP to a server; and it supplies its own boot disk. It fits my backup needs really well.
