Ghost 7 and bootable cd questions

I am completely new to this and have been reading the last couple hours trying to figure this out without luck. Did a search here and read the radified guide to Ghost but still don't understand a few things.

Ghost 7, just the ghost.exe file, came with my motherboard (8RDA+). The manual is good for the actual process of creating and restoring but either I missed some details or it didn't contain them because the ghost.exe does not work in Windows XP Pro and I don't have a floppy drive. The manual contains detailed instructions on creating a recover floppy and recover cd but I am guessing some of the things it tells you to add you can't to just boot into DOS as it states it will automatically backup or restore.

So I need a very simple step by step of what I need to make a bootable cd. Can I just burn the files using Windows XP built in cd burning or is a bootable cd different then just burning some files?

Sounds like I need:

Command.com
IO.sys
MSDOS.sys
Mscdex.exe
ghost.exe
oakcdrom.sys
config.sys (device=oakcdrom.sys /d:idecd001)
autoexec.bat (mscdex.exe /d:idecd001 /l:z)

What about the lines this manual says to add to the autoexec file or is that only for automatic restoration/backup (ghost.exe clone, mode=load, src=z:\orignal.gho, dst=1 -sure -rb or ghost.exe clone, mode=pload, src=d:\orignal.gho:2, dst=1:1 -fx -sure -rb or ghost -clone, mode=pdump, src=1:1, dst=d:\recent.gho -fx -sure -rb or ghost.exe -clone, mode=pload, src=d:\original.gho, dst=1:1 -fx -sure -rb) ?

So I need the exact files I need for the bootable cd and then how to actually create it (unless I can just use the XP built in cd burning). Then I just boot using the cd and follow the manual to make the backup?

If I am booting using a cd then I guess I can't backup the image directly to the cd since it will be occupied so I will then have to backup the image to the hard drive and then later burn it to a cd? Can I use this bootable cd I will be creating to load Ghost everytime and then swap in the backup images to restore or will Ghost have to run from the cd (or does the backup image that I would restore need to be on a bootable cd)?

Edit: Don't know if those files listed are right cause I just did a search on my system and the only one that I even have is command.com.

just use a burning program like nero, they all have bootable cd option/wizard. i just pop in win98se/winme cd into drive to boot😛 i leave ghostexe on drives or on a floppy. stay away from ntsf iithink, bad for ghost.

Ghost doesn't work for XP Pro then? Thought NTFS was pretty common now. So I guess that means Ghost is useless to me?

u can't use a dos boot disc to access ntsf partitions i think. dunno, maybe the xp cd boot might, who knows, i'm doubtful

i use fat32 with xp, less pain. ntsf is great if u need the security and stuff.

ghost is very useful. just install clean install of windows with all basic apps(office) and do all the sp1/updating. then ghost it. don't forget to turn off hibernation or else you'll have that huge huge hibernation file to deal with. keep os partition within 5gb and keep only os/programs on it. keep ghost image on seperate partition or drive with ghost.exe. whever ur wnidows gets hosed, u can restore to a clean windows state within minutes. beats the long long windows reinstallation/update / reinstall process

newest ghost access the NTFS through dos, i've backed up my image already and im using ghost and NTFS

I take it version 7, the one that came bundled with my motherboard, isn't the newest version then. Too bad, I was looking forward to being able to use this.
