I recently starting using a razor to shave my head and now i have razor burn. I tried this 3 dollar cream that worked for a while, now it's just not working. What should i do? Are all creams created equal? How about all shaving creams? Also should i try to shave with the grain? What am i to do? I always find myself picking at it and stuff. Hell mah! :)

Use a quality razor. Edge shaving cream is the best. Try using an aftershave as well.

Edit: Viper should be checking in here.... he's the resident chrome-dome expert.

Hehe well bring him on! Do you recommend one of those razor bumb creams, or should i just use after shave, or can you use both or something?

I've been shaving my head off & on for a while (I get lazy & don't feel like shaving it every day), my tips:

1) Use a good razor. Mach 3 Turbo is excellent.
2) Don't over-use your blades. I get no more than 2 shaves per blade.
3) Shave in the shower.

I use a shaving gel, just plain gilette stuff. Nothing special.

Try different gels/creams/whatever to find what works best for you.

After shaving it I usually put a VERY thin layer of vaseline on it, within 30 mins or so the shine is gone & it prevents burned/dry skin.

Using that I've never had a problem with razor burn.

Now when you shave how do you shave? Front to back? Or do you shave it in sections? Also i already have some razor burn, and i haven't shaved in probaly close to a week. I was trying to let it heal up some but i still have some. So should i just continue anyway? Also you only use vasoline after you shave? Nothing else, no aftershave or anything? Also did you get razor burn when you first started shaving your head? I'm hoping this will go away :( :( :(

For you guys that shave your head, how do you get it all?

I mean it's one thing to miss a spot on your face and look weird, but missing a spot on the head and it'd look funny as hell. Then again I guess you could claim it as a new hairstyle.

How do you make sure you get it all? Seems like it'd be hard to use mirrors on the top and back.

I have to do it in sections. The top is front to back, the back I shave up the back of my neck all the way up. The sides I go up my sideburns all the way to the top. Once it's mostly gone you can go the opposite direction (or any direction you want) to make sure you got it all.

You can feel with your fingers, it's pretty obvious when you miss a section. Your scalp is extremely smooth, even a slight stubble will feel MUCH different. I also do mine twice, once slowly & carefully, & once afterwards quickly to pick up anything I might have missed. No mirrors required, I do it in the shower.

And no, I don't put anything on it other than a very, very light layer of vaseline.

Pics from the first time I did it, a year ago Two Three

Bad pics, & I don't wear glasses anymore, but that's all I have for now.

That was mid December, BTW, & the first time I'd ever taken a blade to it. Thus the pure white.
