Hello,
Just wondering which one you think is a better buy for a friend. Now I'm guessing brands are ATi and nVidia but I can't tell because its a dell and my friend says that a home-built computer will be a bad idea for his family. Anyways, he plans on using it for gaming so there are really two choices given by dell. nVidia 6800 vanilla for $165 or X850 XT for **$435**. See normally this would be an easy choice but geez, $435?? Is it even worth that much? he will not be overclocking unless for some really weird reason i snuck into his house and played with his bios (... oo that could sound weird if i used some other words...). remember choice is limited so please no one be a tard and go telling me about getting a 7800 or something like that.
thx
[edit: P.S. i already proposed buy the cheap x300 and then get a 7800, don't bother saying anything like this :), thanks (he's picky :p)]

[re:edit extra info: they are pci-e, not agp]

Honestly the X850XT is so over price, you can get those at a reasonable price like 279.99 these days somewhere at the hot deals section or around 350 or less. But honestly, if your friend doesn't mind fps performance, and just playing games. He'll be better off for a while about 1-2 years...depending on his need. Later on, you can upgrade when card prices goes down :)

okay
powermoloch brings up a good point, the reason why he's asking me for help is because he's not a hardcore gamer like me, so what i'm really asking is which is a better value, not which will bring t3h l337 pWner.
kthx

The question is how much does he want to spend. There's an ATI or Nvidia card for any budget.

its not really at $165, it's $165 more than they are charging for the X300... so same goes for the ati. eitherway its at dell :p

If he wants a very good card for gaming, the 6800 you list will be very nice. That X850XT is definately faster, but not 270.00 faster. Catch my drift?

Yeah, with that R520 on it's way, most likely that will take the price of the X850 (+/- $200:p)
So the X850 XT should be alot cheaper.

he has to buy from dell.

my recommendation is to take charge of your friend and make him less stuborn. he could waste a lot of money. anyway, considering hes not a hardcore gamer, and the x850xt is so fvcking expensive, you should get the 6800 for sure.
