Hey all.
I am looking at pure HD video playback and my current on board HD 4200 on my gigabyte ga880ga ud3h stutters.
system has athlon 2 x4 630 as well but video playback is not flawless.
which dedicated gfx card is suggested for this job.

I also read that windows 8 is fully GFX accelerated.
so what will be best choice for me.

thanks all.

You'll do fine with either the HD5450 or HD6450, with the nod going to the 6450 for the newer UVD3 engine... :D

If you favour Nvidia the Geforce 520/610(rebaged 520...) is a good choice.

Your 430W psu which is decent can power any mid-highend mainstream card/cpu so you don't have to worry about your psu with a $50-100 gfx card.

which card would you suggest?
I believe if gpu is upgraded, athlon 2 x4 will be quite okay to continue.
or it also should be replaced?

thanks.

Your 4250 should have no problem handling HD video. Something is wrong.

Whoops, hadn't noticed the OP was running a 4250...

You're right. The 4250 should handle HD video fine, perhaps its a driver issue with Win8...?

I think AMD said that the HD4xxx series would only be supported under Win8 with the included driver...?

Personally, I would get a 6450. Its cheap, low power and doesn't put out a lot of excess heat (27W TDP)...

Your X4 is fine. I have a couple X4's around, they're perfectly capable...

its already running latest amd drivers downloaded from the amd support site.but did not notice any improvement with it also.
device manager has no issues indicating missing driver.

Any reputable brand (ASUS, Gigabyte, Sapphire, MSI, XFX etc.) should do. The 6450's are mostly running on reference designs anyway. They are all pretty similar, the difference is usually the extras the manufacturer includes.

This is very odd. If I get my hands on a machine with a HD4250, I'll have to check this out... :hmm:

You can easily run a HD7970/GTX680 on the CX430...

No seriously, if you don't game the only thing a "better" GPU is going to do is use more electricity and therefore cost you more in utilities... :D

The only other option I would consider viable is the HD7750. But again if you don't game its massive overkill...

What codecs are you using to watch video? It seems more like a software problem to me as some have already stated.

I had a HD4250 and I had no problem playing HD videos. It played blu ray 1080p rips and 4k YouTube videos just fine.

I agree as I dont get much time to play games.
so instead of guzzling power,I will grab 6450 and get done with it.
at least my video's and future HTPC usage will be fine with this 6450.
Isn't it?

It should more than fine. The AMD 6450 can also do:

3D Video Support including BluRay 3D

High-Bitrate Audio 7.1 Channels (Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA) with just one HDMI 1.4 Cable connection to your receiver (no need for additional audio cables to connect to your HTPC) if you plan to build a home theater with an 8 speaker system. Most High Bitrate MKVs/h.264/BluRay ISOs (15GB or larger) have these types of high bitrate Audio Formats.
