Hi

My problem is quite strange. I have no plans to upgrade my processor. Was wondering what gfx card will suit it. I dont want a gfx card that is a overkill fr my comp.

I was thinkin in lines of ATI Radeon 9600 pro 128 MB or higher.

Please help. Thanks

how much are you gonna spend?

100$- Nvidia 6200 (unlock pipelines and overclock it to make it a 6600)
$180- 6600
$200- 6600GT (great card for the price

depends on how much you wanna spend. all of these cards easily run faster than a 9600. also, they support shader model 3.0 (while as ANY ati card only uses 2.0....all 6xxx cards from nvidia use 3.0)which will be needed to play games decently after late 2005.

LOL.
You are worried about SM3.0 support when he has a 1.6GHz P4?
Not being rude, but I don't think SM3 will be the issue after late 2005.

What price range are you looking at?

Hi

I was wondering if I can use the 6600 on a weaker processor like P4.
Budget fr the graphics card is not a constraint, but I dont want to upgrade
my processor.

Can i go with the 6600 or 6600GT even with a low system configuration like mine

Thanks

Name 1 game today that plays faster than 2% with SM3.0 support vs. SM2.0B on ATI cards?

The only good thing about SM3.0 is HDR and Nvidia cards today are too slow to use this feature effectively at higher rez.

OP - get A64 3000+ $129 on Monarch + $100 mobo (ie. Chaintech) + $180 6600GT. It's worth the upgrade. Those A64s overclock well too. With your processor a lot of games will be slow. S939 platform will support dual core cpus, you'll be 64-bit ready and you'll have a long upgrade path for your videocard. This priviledge will cost you $229 to start with but it's well worth it given that you'll have to toss your AGP videocard and motherboard in which you are trying to invest more money. If you didnt have a slow cpu, i'd recommend keeping it and getting an AGP card.

Nobody asked for a flame war, buddy, leave it for another day...

Agreed, so what is the recommended card for my low end system.

I plan to upgrade within 3-4 months, can go in fr a better card later.
I am getting 9600 pro fr 90$ which sounds like a good deal.

I'd like to play HL2 and Doom3. Can my system support it even if i go in for a good card.
What do u say

currently I play most of the EA sports titles
They work well on my 9200 ATI Radeon 128 MB
And HL2 was playable at low resolutions

I give up. There seems no future with my current specs
Plannin to upgrade my Comp or wait for my dell XPS2 to ship
in. Its got a 256 MB 6800 card.

Thanks fr all the help.

I would think a vanilla 6600 would work just great on that system... the 1.6P4 is not THAT bad, at least it's a northwood I assume.. it should be plenty to run most games at medium res...

oh well its up to you 🙂

There is not a shred of truth in what you just said. Sorry bud, you need to do your research before you start saying things like that. Will an X850XT PE not be able to play new games because it doesnt have SM3.0?

hi guys
thanks fr all the help. I am getting ATI RADEON 9600 pro for 80US$ in Singapore. Which is quite
cheap considering its performance. As u all said higher performance cards may be a bottleneck for my CPU, so till the time i upgrade my CPU, I can have a decent gaming performance.

Thanks
