GFWL help - Lost GTAIV saved games

I installed and played GTAIV a long time ago. At that time you could play it in offline mode with your GFWL account. It didn't 'auto sign in', instead it would say <profile name> - offline mode.

I recently purchased Episodes from Liberty City and played a good way through. I accidentally hit "sign in" which immediately ended my game and signed me out.

The problem is that it looks like I can't play E:LC in offline mode. Even worse, it looks like my 'offline mode' saved games are separate from my 'online mode' saved games... I'm hoping these are stored somewhere (Maybe in my GTAIV directory?) and recoverable.

I know this has been beaten to death, but GFWL on top of Steam is ridiculous.

Get xliveless. It's a dll that you put in the game directory, and it completely removes the stupid RSGSC and Live requirements.

Also, by default saves are stored somewhere in AppData I believe. I'm pretty sure xliveless places the directory somewhere more accessible, but I'm not sure.

No luck. It may be because I use Steam.

I created an offline account, copied my saved games only over the offline account, and if I try to load them I get "Load failed...."

XLive Wrapper causes GTAIV not to run after I copy over the xlive.dll.

GFWL sucks balls. Even worse when you have to use it on top of Steam or something else.
I thought I lost my Red Faction 3 saves, but after digging all over my hard drive I found them.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I've lost my saves.

I have the actual save files but GFWL has some way of knowing they're associated with my original offline account that disappeared. Copying them over results in load errors. That xlive.dll program causes GTA to not load.

I can't help but wonder if this problem shows up in a cracked version.

The cracked versions use xliveless, so no.

I don't like GFWL either.

Check here: http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/p/828/81484.aspx

Here's what you can try:
Start a new game in GTA IV and save your game at least once. This will create a new folder in the C:\Users\[WINDOWS USER NAME]\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames folder.
Your old folder should be there too, with your old save games in them. Once this new folder is created, open the old folder which should contain your saved games, and move them into the new folder which was just created.

This doesn't work with the current version of the game.

If the profile with my saved games was a GFWL account then I could create a new profile and copy over my saves. The problem is that my saves were made using an offline profile that 'deleted itself' (I'm guessing they now force people to use GFWL but didn't when it was released?)

When I copy my 'old offline profile' saves to my 'new offline profile' I get load errors. It's fairly common, unfortunately.

I can't figure out why any gaming company would ever use GFWL. Is it because they want to increase piracy, maybe they want to make PC gamers quit using a PC and get a console, or does Microsoft bribe or threaten companies into using GFWL?

To me, it's obviously MS trying to get a piece of the 'Steam Pie'

Umm...

Check out this post:

"I swear with God as my witness this is true. GFWL never did work reliably on DoW2 for me when I tried to create an online account. Then I got a 360, created a Gold Live account, and started using that login for all my PC games...now it all works well and I even get achievements showing up on my 360 when I login."

FWIW, my Gold account (which may have been tied with my GFWL account but set to always stay offline?) expired a few days before all of this saved mess happened. I can't imagine it's related, but definitely an odd time for everything to go down.
