Hmm so Apple refused to replace the phone for the out-of-warranty fee ($199) because it had a third-party screen? I know their rule is that the phone can't have visible physical damage (e.g. no cracked screen).
Ok, seriously, here is the story. My girlfriends sister has an iphone 4s. She dropped it a few weeks ago and busted the screen. She had a techie friend buy some cheap screen and replace it. All was working OK but yesterday she went jogging and put the phone between her boobs. She sweated onto/into the phone. Phone shut down and wont turn on. Stupidly, she goes to apple store where they instantly void the phone because she had a 3rd party screen installed. So, I tell her to put it in rice and hope for the best. Should she consider going to TMO and just get a cheap phone off contract? She is on VZW and her phone is only 2 months old but she voided the warranty and her EOT fee will be like 350 or so. I told her if the rice bit doesnt work to sell the iphone 4s, im sure she can get something for it, and go to TMO and get a cheap android phone for no money down and 10 bucks a month plus 60 for a decent plan. She is currently paying around 100 on VZW just for her phone!
Is this a sound idea?
if her phone is only 2 months old that means her contract is probably also 2 months old... in which case ETF is 350 + 20/mo on the remainder of the contract. she'll probably pay around $600 to terminate.
i have a used HTC thunderbolt that is just collecting dust on my desk, if she needs a replacement phone. i'd be willing to part with it cheap since its useless to me (i'm on tmo now)
Uh no, it's $350 to terminate and then perhaps that month's bill but that's it.
maybe the policy changed - when i tried to terminate my VZW contract they charged ETF and $20/mo on the remainder of the contract. it was bullshit and the only reason i didn't terminate early, as i distinctly remember waiting a good half year for my lines to reach end of contract before terminating.
If you cancel a line of Service, or if we cancel it for good cause, during its contract term, you'll have to pay an Early Termination Fee. If your contract term results from your purchase of an Advanced Device, your Early Termination Fee will be $350 minus $10 for each full month of your contract term that you complete. (For a complete list of Advanced Devices, check verizonwireless.com/advanceddevices.) Otherwise, your Early Termination Fee will be $175 minus $5 for each full month of your contract term that you complete. Cancellations will become effective on the last day of that month's billing cycle
question is, if she has only been VZW 2 months, why did she choose the iPhone 4S?
The whole point of VZW is the LTE network.
Some people want the "luxury" of an iPhone but don't have money.
This. Anyway, shes going to cancel the contract, pay the fee, put the bad iphone up for sale locally, and I will give her my sons S2 when I give him my S3 after I get my S4. She can jump on tmo then. And no, I will not be posting her boobs here.![]()
