GF's sister's iphone, death by boobs!

Ok, seriously, here is the story. My girlfriends sister has an iphone 4s. She dropped it a few weeks ago and busted the screen. She had a techie friend buy some cheap screen and replace it. All was working OK but yesterday she went jogging and put the phone between her boobs. She sweated onto/into the phone. Phone shut down and wont turn on. Stupidly, she goes to apple store where they instantly void the phone because she had a 3rd party screen installed. So, I tell her to put it in rice and hope for the best. Should she consider going to TMO and just get a cheap phone off contract? She is on VZW and her phone is only 2 months old but she voided the warranty and her EOT fee will be like 350 or so. I told her if the rice bit doesnt work to sell the iphone 4s, im sure she can get something for it, and go to TMO and get a cheap android phone for no money down and 10 bucks a month plus 60 for a decent plan. She is currently paying around 100 on VZW just for her phone!

Is this a sound idea?

Looks like she has to buy a burner to use until her upgrade comes through, buy an iPhone on eBay/CL or bite the bullet for a full-fare iPhone from Apple/Verizon.

If she gets a verizon android phone she needs to go to verizon to get a sim card

Because its entirely possible to port her number to TMobile, snag a Nexus 4 for $50 down and $10 a month, pay he ETF on Verizon and come out ahead in like 8 months or so presuming she goes with the $50/500MB plan and it shav $40/mo off her bill (40x8=320, right around where her ETF would be).

That's provided TMo has good coverage where she's at. Alternatively, she could probably pick up a used 4S for under $300 or go with an older Verizon Android phone. Just keep those things away from small objects.

if you bung your phone verizon will let you buy off their refurbished phone page for what is basically and upgrade price. they may or may not have ip4s. you can also buy one off craigs or swaape(?), which is what id do. i wouldnt go to tmobile over this issue that is a definite downgrade from verizon

I forgot to mention. She wants out of VZW because they really rape you. I figured she can pay the etf sell the boobed up iPhone for a bit of cash and jump on a much cheaper tmo plan. She's sick of VZW and I figure she could break even in several months. Tmo has very good 4g coverage in Fort Lauderdale .

That sucks for sure. I had sort of the same situation except for the boobs and just bought a used Iphone off CL.

Just tell her that at least she didn't buy the phone out right. Some on here think its the way to go...

Hmm so Apple refused to replace the phone for the out-of-warranty fee ($199) because it had a third-party screen? I know their rule is that the phone can't have visible physical damage (e.g. no cracked screen).
