Hi
I am about to build a system for a friends son (11) who doesnt have alot of money and wants a gaming machine.
Since I have always been a fan of 3dfx, I am only familiar with the graphics of the Voodoo 3 and 5 while playing UT or Quake3.
I really dont want to get a voodoo since 3dfx is out and this friend really cant afford to upgrade soon.
The budget for the graphics card is going to be a maximum of $150.00
Can someone tell me

1. How does the MX version the Gforce look in UT, QUake3 and other modern games.

2. Based on the maximum of $150.00, is this the best card for these games

3. If so, which brand of the MX should I get them.
I will be installing Windows Millenium edition but am willing to install Windows 98SE if 98SE is the better compatible OS.
Thanks for the help

How about a 32 meg DDR Radeon? I just ordered an OEM card for $118 with free shipping fom z-buy.com. Heck of a deal if you are ok with OEM cards. A few other vendors have this deal. Check pricewatch.com to find them.

I just took about 20 screenys of Counter-strike and Quake 3, with both FSAA and Non-FSAA on my MX. I'll post them as soon as I can upload them.

Also, a note about the screenys, You can't open them In Microsoft Paint, You can open them in any program that opens .tsa files. It works in Paintshop pro, and should work with photoshop.

These pics are Highest quality everything, and the Res is 800x600.

I am running a eVGA MX card and have had no probs with it. I'm impressed with the graphics and it has been a big upgrade from my Voodoo 3 2000, which was incredibly dark in Half Life. Considering you can pick up a MX card for about 90.00 it's a no brainer. The only other possability, as already mentioned is the ATI RADEON if you can get one at a good price.
