GF6800GT not playing video files properly...

Hi,

I had temperature issues with my XFX Geforce 6800GT, so I removed the heatsink, applied thermal paste in a very brutal way and reseated the heatsink.

The temperatures got a little down, and my games work fine, and my desktop looks fine.

But when I try to play video files, the image gets really messed up in WMP, very whitish and choppy.

I'm using the latest Nvidia driver, so could this be a problem because of my applying thermal paste? If so, would there be any way to fix it?

Downgrade from 77.72 to 71.89 via nVidia's site and report back. I had to do this for my 6800Ultra to get rid of the high gamma video.

OMG, I tested the other XFX GF6800GT I have here, exactly the same as this but never touched, and it wouldn't play videos neither! So the easy answer is gone, gladly.

Anyway, my WMP is asking for the Indeo codec, even though it plays all video files as I have already installed a codec pack. I'll try to update the codec, then if it doesn't work, I'll go for the driver reversal.

Oh, and I just realized the video kinda looks as it has 8bit color, because I tested this mode and it looks similar.

Got the K-lite codec pack 2.27 (i was running 2.50), and now the Indeo has been properly installed and finally my porn is good on the screen again

Thanks for the attention, maybe you guys should try this too if video problems occur.

I recently reinstalled Windows on my PC, and downloaded the newest drivers from Nvidia's site. Before my video played fine. This is on a GeForce 6800 nu modded to 16/6. After installing the newer drivers I noticed all of my video was crappy too. I had to enable hardware acceleration on video playback in my DVD software and Media Player. I think I also had to find some option to use 'high quality' video in Media Player. I don't know why it defaulted to the low quality, but it did. It's one thing for you to check, I guess.

Another solution:

1) Download the 77.76 drivers for 2K/XP
2) uninstall your current video drivers
3) reboot to safe mode
4) run Driver Cleaner and be sure to choose choose NVIDIA only
5) Reboot computer to normal mode and install 77.76 drivers

NO YOU DON'T NEED TO REINSTALL ANYTHING

Use the official Nvidia drivers...to play videos properly (not washed out), simply go to the Color Correction tab. Under the "Color Profiles", select "Advanced" and click Apply. This should solve your problem. I had the exact same problem on my 6800GT when I first installed.

Alright, problem solved guys, just had to install the codecs and everything went normal.
