My emachines with a gf4mx 440se pci (specs below) has all of a sudden decided it doesnt like going full screen on videos. Any video file plays fine in a window, but if i make it go full screen, it will have the video just be a little box on the upper left corner with the rest of the screen black for a few seconds, then pop back to windows media player.
On my laptop, I had the same problem with an ATI card and it turned out to be a BIOS issue that caused overlays to not work properly.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and how do I go about fixing it?

I have rebooted, reinstalled latest forcewares, etc.
The problem just suddenly occured. full screen videos have always worked, and I did not install new software/drivers or anything afaik before the problem started happening.

Definitely sounds like a problem with the video overlay... try using something that can be run in software mode like VLC to play a video file. If that works, it's definitely the video card/drivers. You might try reinstalling DirectX as well if you already tried new drivers. And use Driver Cleaner to ensure you've actually wiped out the old ones.

Also, please condense your sig. It's a little ridiculous to have not one, but TWO entire systems listed, with ONE item on each line (and four extra lines of spacing).

condensed.

what's wierd is i just found out that the videos work fine if i play them in Media player classic (using overlay output), however in WMP10, no matter what I do with the overlay settings, it won't go full screen.

Bizarre. Are there any settings you can tweak in WMP10? Maybe try a different decoder (if possible -- haven't gotten WMP10 yet...)? Does rolling back to WMP9 fix it?
