Hey guys, im new here but not a complete total computer n00b

Anyway i have a dilemma on my hands, should i get a MSI or Gainward Ti4200 128MB card?

I kno the MSI's heatsink is loud but it has a DVI which the Gainward doesnt, they are about the same in price and i cant spend more than $165 (price of the gainward on newegg - i kno there is a model with dvi but i cant spend that much)

Also which is a better OCer?

Any help in my choice is appreciated, thank u

:EDIT: I forgot to add that i doubt i will ever use the DVI as a second monitor or for a LCD so thats y i was leaning toward the gainward, but then again i do not kno what the future holds..

Both are good choices,MSI has the better software bundle and is cheaper,Gainward might overclock slighty better so it`s really your call.

Ive read that the MSI is cheaper (the recent tech report roundup says that the 128mb version is $155, compared to $165 for the gainward @ newegg), but pricegrabber finds it for no less than $180. Newegg does list the MSI card for $159 but its out of stock with no ETA.. Anyone know where that $155 came from?

The gainward does OC a bit better, but is slightly faster memory if you oc worth $10 extra and a very small bundle? It really depends how much you would use the stuff in MSI's bundle. As for me, Im going to go with the gainward unless I can find the msi at a lower price.

To add to my last response, the MSI has a great bundle of software but as for using it, not! I dont even have the MSI drivers installed. I just used the detinator drivers from nVida. Here is some of the software you would be getting....2 disk set of "no one lives forever", MSI multimedia w/ win producer, coder professional users pack,Games collection (various games bundled on 1 disk),"Sacrifice", aqua Nox".
Thats it! I dont have any use for this but you may want to have that choice. So, if they are right about the o/c on the gainward, for $10 more may be a better deal. But for your info, my GeForce 4 TI4600 can be set at 329/742 without a problem. here take a peek. ;)

I've heard people complain about MSI 2D quality, though I've mostly heard this about their GF3 line, don't know if they've improved with the GF4's.

And this is just what I've read, got a LeadTek myself, so I haven't seen it first hand.

The image quality on GF4s is very close to each other even at 1600x1200 res,all the reviews I`ve read say the same thing, so in general not much between them.

Get the Gainward. It suits your needs better, and will most likely overclock a bit better. I'm running an MSI GF3 Ti200, works great for me!

I've tried others but always came back to Gainward..... well I do have an Visiontek which has been good but it doesn't get used much. Gainward was a nobody several years ago but they put out some great cards. I have the 4200 with 128 and am very happy with the 2D and 3D quality.
