I have two machines and two video cards: In the first machine I have a GF3ti200, Epox MB with an 800 MHZ athlon and 512 PC133 and in the second mahcine I have a Duron 1.2 GHZ with KS75a MB , GF4mx400 and 512 PC133. The 800 is my main mahcine with XP and an 80 GB drive and the other I use for guests. I need to reinstall XP on the 2nd box and I was thinking that maybe I should start using the GF4 for main gaming instead of the GF3. Is this particular GF4 that much better than the 3ti200 or about the same or what???? Any opinions would be appreciated.

The GF3 Ti200 is better than the GF4 MX, BTW there is no GF4 MX400 only a MX420. 440 and 460! :)

The difference between the two will be quite small however because you will mostly be limited by your cpu and not by your video cards.

Actually there is an MX400, MX420, MX440, and MX460..... some no longer exist but thats because of market forces. But yes, there is no MX400's around any more (I dont think they made all that many anyway, kinda like GF2 MX100's, stillborn) and if there were they would truly suck compared to the GF3 ti200. At best the MX460 gives the GF3 ti200 a run for its money but the GF3 is the way to go.

I don't believe there was EVER a gf4 mx400. There was a gf2 mx400 though. At any rate, the ti200 will be completely superior.

Ok thanks I'll keep all this in mind, so heres the other part, will I get better performance if I put the GF3 in the 1.2 duron box or should I leave in in the 800 athlon box??? I play ut2003,rtcw,q3 urban terror etc....

It's MX4400, isn't it?
Anyway, I vouch for GF3 before GF4MX. Newer tech, better card.

The 1.2 Duron box would probably be faster than the Athlon so if you want maximum performance the GF3 should probably go in the Duron.

I would get an ATI Radeon 9000/9100/9200 simply because they have excellent 2D/Text quality where as both of your choices dont which would make them awful for a working computer. Both the np and Pro version can play games but perhaps not well enough to satisfy a moderate or hardcore gamer. On a side note I notice that my Radeon 9000 has noticeably crisper text than my GeForce 4 Ti 4200, but maybe's it just the monitor differences...

Another vote for the Duron 1.2 over the Athlon 800 ... the difference will be small, but measurable for games. The GF3Ti200 will definitely outperform the G4MX on just about everything, by a comfortable margin. As for mobos, the SiS chipset is nothing special for the K7S5A, but it is serviceable (and can take DDR266 mem). I don't know what you are running on the Epox, but it might be a better choice if its a decent VIA chipset ... check online reviews for the best choice of the two. And of course, keep the 80gig drive yourself :)

The 800 has faster fsb and bigger cache but the Duron Morgan starts out with 400mhz higher clock, SSE, and Data prefetch, so I would put the Duron and ti200 in the Epox if it's overclockable and pencil in the L1 bridges on the Morgan, then drop the multiplier and overclock the FSB so that you negate any FSB advantage the 800 had. At that point the Duron will smackdown the 800 as both will have the same FSB potential but the 800 will most likely not hit the clockspeed the Morgan defaults to let alone hit the 1.33-1.4ghz the Duron should. I would also push the FSB to whatever the ram will handle which could be 145-150mhz, that will have you in the best possible shape for gaming your present hardware can provide.
