i'm building myself a new system, while cannibalizing some parts from my current comp, so with that said, here are the components i know i'm getting (* is stuff i already have)
1.4ghz (maybe 1.6) athlon xp on an iwill xp333-r
*wd 30gig 7200rpm ata/100 drive
128mb x 3 crucial ddr ram
*sb live xgamer
*48x toshiba cd
*10/4/24 hp cdrw
*250w power supply

andso, my dilemma is what vid card to buy? i can't spend anymore than 150/175, but i wanna eke out as much performance as possible since this system needs to last me atleast 2.5/3years. i wont be buying until may or june though. i just wanna start getting a feel for what is available now since i've been a bit out of the loop for the last 6 months (school's a b****!). i've been looking at the gf3/ti200 but a lot of ppl seemto be in love with the gf2/ti200. i can't come clsoe to affording a ti500 or 8500, so that leaves me these three. any other bright suggestions?
thx

you will probably need a better PS to run that XP. As to vid card the GF 2 Ti and GF3 Ti 200 are pretty close in performance(with the Cardexpert GF2 Ti 500 that is, it OC's well) in 16bit but in 32bit the GF3 is faster so i would go with that if you can shell out the cash.

I agree, GF3 TI-200 is a great deal. Radaeon 7500 will serve you better at 1600x1200, I'd imagine.

The new GF4-MX's are supposed to be coming out in the $100-150 price range in the next couple of months, though...

hmm, gf4mx certainly sounds nice, and once again, i'm not going to be buying for another three months...so i got plenty of time to make deicsions, scratch it out, and start all over. starting with a new ps (any rec's for a good 300+ wt ps?)
