GF3 TI200 or nForce?

Which one should I get? I do some gaming, web work, programming, school (word pro), and web surfing. Pretty much everything😀 If I get the nForce I'll also get to upgrade to DDR so that is a plus. If I get the GF3 TI200 I'll have...

1ghz Bird
ASUS A7V133
512MB PC133
GF3 TI200

If I get the nForce with RAM I'll have...

1ghz Bird
ASUS A7N266
512MB PC2100
Voodoo5 5500 AGP

Which path would you choose and why?

It depends on whether you hae a lot of cash. If you have the money to buy a separate mobo and video that go for a ddr solution board like the MSI K7T266 Pro or the EPoX EP-8KHA+. The GF3 TI200 is better than the integrated MX on the Nforce. However, the Nforce can squeeze a little more performance. BTW, if you ge the nForce, buy two sticks on 258 MB PC2100 to take advantage of the new buses.

You'll probably get a better performance boost going with the nForce, since you will also get the GF2 MX-like graphics in addition to the DDR upgrade.

Well, the GF2 MX isn't an upgrade from my V5 (that's the bad thing about the nForce to me). I get better FPS in any game than my friend with the MX and 256MB DDR. Also, the DDR is 5% better than SDRAM, right? Not shooting down ideas, just trying to make sure I've got all the info before dropping down some cash😀

That depends how much do you value the integrated components on nForxe, like the powerful audios and lan and other extra goodies.

Check the rig, I think the sound card I have does the job.

<< I think the new ddr solutions make the ddr 10% better >>

A little better😀

<< but what's wrong with the other ddr boards? >>

Nothing, I'm just an ASUS man. I've never had a problem with them and I'll pay a little more for their quaility.

I heard the new EPoX (I just waiting to get it, but it is out of stock until 10/22, which is tomorrow) has the quality of Asus and the overclocking abilities of Abit.

I'm not into OCing anymore. I just need stability and quaility. I'll take a look at that Epox, my friend I was just speaking of has one. How much is it?

The EPoX Ep-8KHA uses the VIA KT266 chipset while the EP-8KHA+ uses the VIA KT266A chipset. The 266A is much better than its predecessor. Currently it is the best chipset you can get.

Well that one is $116. From what I was told, the ASUS A7N266 should ring in at about $120 (with sound, LAN, and video built in). So I guess it would be dumb to get the Epox when you could get the nForce for $4 more. Are there any numbers with the nForce vs KT266A?

Either way, I'll be getting both sooner or later. Maybe I should get the GF3 now because my RAM and mobo are fine. Then get the nForce after it has some time out in the market so I can check out any bugs.

I think that's the best solution. You won't see much speed increase going from your current setup to an nForce mobo, but I think you'll definitely notice the difference in FPS with a GF3 🙂

Damn right😀 The best thing for me with a GF3 would be the driver issue!!! I would actually have drivers that arn't a year old😀
