okay, here's the deal.. I just installed a Sound Blaster Live! value card into my Epox 8KHA+ system. I checked the IRQ's and there is a total of 10 items for IRQ 11!!!!

4 are ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering... 3 are VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller... 1 is the SB Live! value card.. 1 is the NIC.. and the last 1 is my Gainward GF3 Ti200.

This isn't very good is it? I know that that sound card and the video card shouldn't be on the same IRQ. Well, at least I've heard that it shouldn't be that way. Should I change it? I haven't experienced any conflicts.. yet but I'm guessing the Live! card on the same IRQ as my GF3 Ti200 could kill its performance.

How can I change the IRQ? Is the only way by moving it to different PCI slots? Is there any one slot that it should go into?

My NIC is on PCI #2 and the Live! is on PCI #5. I guess I could alwys move the Live! card to PCI #6... if it'll make any difference.

Oh yeah, please suggest any better configurations with the IRQ's... like if the NIC, sound, or video card should be in their own IRQ.. or something.. thanks

Try disabling the Soundblaster 16 emulation in device manager. That should free up IRQ 5 and the SB Live should move back to IRQ 9. Having both on the same IRQ will definitely cause probs. Hope this helps.

If this system is Win2K or WinXP (something that the poster has not made clear), there is no Creative SB16 Emulation device installed.

If it IS a Win9x system, you can consider what zodder suggests, or ensure that the Share IRQ with LPT setting is checked.
