Hello,

1st of all i'd like to say this is my 1st post here on Anandtech .. You guyz came in highly recommended by friends of mine.. Anyways.. enough pleasantries.. :)

My question is .. I presently have a Dell Dimension 4100 which is a P3 933 with 512Mb's of Ram and a GF2 GTS 64DDR card. I want to switch the video card and give this "old gf2" to my daugther's machine .. AND buy myself the VisionTek GF 3 TI 200. Now if it wouldn't have been for my friends .. i would have just gotten to the store and bought the darn thing and slap it in BUT .. i was kindly reminded that although it SHOULD work i COULD have a surprise and have it NOT work with this system.

The main reasons i was given are that i; needed to have a "newer mobo" version AND/OR needed to be able to support the power requirements of the GF3 card.

Do you guyz have any kind of scoop on this ?

Thanks in advance gentlemen..

welcome BenGalf to anandtech also,

<< Yes, it will work. >>

they are probably refering to the voltage specs of the new motherboards being 1.5(1.5 volts = 4xagp) volts an older cards being 3.3 volts which in this case is not the case as the new cards are backwards compatible

hope this helps;)

I don't think you would have any problem running a VT GF3 Ti200. I researched the Dell 4100 for some friends about a year ago and found that it uses a motherboard made by intel, although I don't recall the model name. From what I found, Dell uses all high quality components in their machines. I run a VT GF3 Ti200 on my Soyo 440BX mobo with a P3-700 and it runs fine. Since you already run a GF2, in my opinion, you won't have a problem. It is your decision to make, but personally, I would not be worried about it.
