I would have to say... yes upgrade!! Go to newegg and buy the gainward gf3 ti 200 for $165 I had a Gf2Mx40064mb and i upgraded to a gf2Pro and there was quite a huge diff!! And thats only a Pro.

I've made this exact upgrade (Hercules brand GF2 MX to Gainward GFIII Ti200 GS).
I play only few types of games. Here is what I've seen:

MS Flight Sim 2002 (very much Processor dependent) - little improvement, but some
MS Motocross Madness 2 - big improvement
Quake III - huge improvement
3D Mark 2K and 2K1 (although not really games) - huge improvement

So, if you like Direct 3d games, you should se some to lots of improvement depending on your processor. If you like Open GL games, you should see lots of improvement.

Heck I went from a Gainward GF2 Pro/450 Golden Sample to a PNY GF3 Ti200 and saw a BIG difference. I can't imagine how big the jump from an MX would be.

The difference should be night and day. The gpu is clocked faster, faster memory and new techniques involved with the GF3, even the TI200(which can be overclocked to the performance of a TI500). If I wasn't waiting for the GF4, I would get that GF3 TI200.. or maybe even think about getting the Radeon 8500 for about the same cost.

Hey Tydas, it all depends what games you are playing and at what resolution.

If I where in your shoes, I would hold off buying anything for about three months. In the next three months a number of cards are coming out, such as the Geforce 4 line and the Kyro III. These new cards will drastically reduce the price of the Geforce 3 Ti200 (to probably under $100) and The Geforce 4Ti line and the KyroIII will be probably be in the mid hundred range. With the geforce 4 ti or the kyro III you would definitely be able to play Doom III. ;)

So hold off for about three months.

Apart from the logic being flawed in that memory chip prices are going steeply up and the GF3 has many more transistors than the GF2 to produce, it is a miserable kind of miserliness that could never end because part prices never truly settle.
Only Tydas can tell us if it would be worth his money and time. I can just guess it will be.
