GF2 MX and overclocking cpu?

I have a BX mobo running a p3 600e and a 32mb gf2 mx (with HS only, didn't come with a fan)

when I try to run games running at anything over 600 mhz, 3d games freeze. It did not do this before with my v3 3k.

could the lack of a fan be that much of a problem?
I've tried it on win2k and winme with the latest and even some older drivers, but nothing lets me play games overclocked.

[edit] FPS while running at 600 mhz appear to be slightly over the average GF2 MX card[/edit]

Any suggestions?

thanks in advance

The card cant take the agp bus. Voodoo 3's are known to run with extremely high agp busses. I guess yur mx cant handle it.

it can't take even 68 mhz agp bus? that sounds a bit strange, they usually have a little slack

perhaps try the card in a friends system that runs an o/ced agp bus, i guess we'll find out then...

Anand & or company wrote a fantastic article about running various Vidcards at 89 and 98 Mhz FSB. From Anandtech's front page, click "Reviews," "Video Cards," and "BX-133 Video Guide." If you have a 440BX, it's a must-read.

well, I know the memory and pci bus are not factors, as i run 124 mhz bus normally w/ 1/4 pci divider and pc133 ram.

I downloaded powerstrip, and by default, SBA was already disabled.
I tried setting agp to 1x, and it froze in the middle of a single time demo.

rebooted and set agp 1x and overclocked the card to 190/185 and it made it through a timedemo.

kinda strange.
not quite settled that its stable yet though

;)

You can't really run a GF2mx with OC'ed CPU, especially if your MX is OC'ed. Not to say, that it can't happen. But you may be less successful, than other video cards.

I think I'm pretty lucky. Got my Tbird700@900 and my Inno3D GeForce2MX @ 210core 210mem. Works great. But I still only get 5100 3DMarks. Why is that? I think I should be getting better results.
