What's the dealio?

Old System

Athlon 900 @ 1030
KT7-RAID w/256 of PC133
GF2 MX400

60 FPS at CS

New System

Palomino 1800+ at 1610
Shuttle AK31 w/512 of DDR 2100
GF3 Ti 200 overclocked to 210/460

60 FPS at CS!!!

Now that's just plain depressing. Does CS pin the FPS at a certain speed? I thought it did this at 99 FPS not 60!

You could use something like nvmax or simply looking in your settings

properties>settings>advanced>(your card type)>additional properties>

Go to the OGL tab for OGL or for D3D go DIrect 3D>More Direct 3D (assuming you have a similar config to me). Nvmax is pretty funky. While you are at it enable FSAA :)

Also don't forget that CS is limited to a maximum of 99 FPS. So even if you disable vsync your average is still only going to be 99 FPS at the most, which is still a misleading result.

In reality the GF3 Ti200 is at least three times as fast as a GF2 MX.

Not to mention that it can obtain close to Ti500 speeds by effortless overclocking.

Okie dok. I got it up to 71 with Vsync off. I also overclocked a little more to 220/480. At full load my CPU is running at 39C and the case temp is 32C. I guess that'll be good enough. I'm a little suprised this couldn't go higher though. D3d would just make it slower right? I'm assuming OGL is the way to go with CS...

Change maxfps to 99. Now crank up 4x FSAA, and anisotropic filtering...you will still get 70-100 fps :)

to change your maximum frame-rate, in console type:
max_fps 100

It gets stuck at 99fps.

You could also set the max fps to 20 if your like me! :) I did that for about three seconds until it began to annoy me. :p
